Two electrified powertrains anchor the 2027 S-Class lineup. The Mercedes-Benz S 500 4MATIC pairs a 3.0-litre inline-six (M 256 Evo) with mild-hybrid technology, producing 375 hp and now 443 lb-ft of torque, with a brief overtorque function lifting that figure to 472 lb-ft for situations such as merging onto Whitemud Drive or cresting an Alberta highway hill. A more capable electric auxiliary compressor, refined intake and exhaust ports, and a revised intake camshaft sharpen response across the rpm band. Stepping up, the Mercedes-Benz S 580 4MATIC houses the new V8 (M 177 Evo) producing 530 hp and 553 lb-ft of torque between 2,500 and 4,500 rpm, with a flat-plane crankshaft, reworked turbocharger housing, and an updated firing order that reduces internal vibration.

Both engines work with a 23-hp integrated starter generator running on a 48-volt subsystem, enabling coasting, boost, and energy recuperation while smoothing out start-stop transitions to the point of being barely noticeable. 4MATIC all-wheel drive is fitted standard on every 2027 S-Class, distributing torque continuously between the axles based on traction conditions -- a worthwhile companion when freezing rain hits the QEII or fresh snow falls overnight. Standard AIRMATIC air suspension with intelligent damping uses Car-to-X data shared by other Mercedes-Benz vehicles to adjust before the sedan reaches a road imperfection, while optional E-ACTIVE BODY CONTROL governs each wheel individually. Standard 4.5-degree rear-axle steering improves manoeuvrability, and an optional 10-degree system shrinks the turning circle by nearly 2 m for tight downtown parking.
